Breeding Tools

The basic principles of animal breeding include aspects of population, quantitative, and molecular genetics, as well as breeding programs. Although the theory behind these principles involves a lot of statistics and matrix algebra, the study of animal breeding very much focuses on practical applications.

This website hosts multiple interactive online tools for animal breeding education. These tools perform basic calculations using the basic principles in animal breeding, based on input provided by the user. This allows students and professionals to quickly test and compare a large number of scenarios, which will be useful for deepening the understanding of the underlying concepts.

I acknowledge Prof. Julius van der Werf (https://jvanderw.une.edu.au/), whose Excel sheets provided the basis and inspiration for these tools.
